1959 Vintage Harley-Davidson XLH Ironhead Chopper

Sportsters first came out in 1957. They replaced the K Series models, which came out in 1952.

When the Sportsters started rolling out from the Harley factory, they were called Ironheads because the heads were made of iron. The designation used for Sportsters was XL and usually followed by another letter(s) or numbers.

The vintage Harley-Davidson pictured below is a 1959 XLH. The “H” stands for high compression. It has obviously been significantly modified from when it came out of the factory and it is now a raked out chopper.
